Gigondas AOC

posted by admin in , , Uncategorized

Gigondas is a wine-growing AOC in the southern Rhône wine region of France. It is named after the small village of Gigondas (population approx 600), and gained AOC status in 1971.

Red and rosé wines are made from Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsaut and Mourvèdre grapes. Most wines are red, and Grenache Noir dominates. The reds can be rustic when young but age very well, and are sometimes seen as a cheaper alternative to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Over 5 million bottles are produced every year.
