Rich Johnson

Rich Johnson is a meteorologist from Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, with a B.S. in Meteorology.

Rich holds both the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval as a “Certified Broadcast Meteorologist” and the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval for his on-air skills and he is a member of both professional societies.

Rich joined The Weather Channel in 1983. He worked as a graphics technician, a product coordinator, and then forecaster, before becoming a senior meteorologist. Through The Weather Channel’s apprentice program, Rich perfected his on-camera skills. He first appeared on-air at The Weather Channel in December 1987.

Rich has a Top Ten List of most memorable weather events. Number One is The Blizzard of 1979. He remembers “zero visibility and snowing at 5 inches per hour.” A close Number Two is Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

Rich is also the author of a book titled “So You’re Having A Bad Day?”
